What is Off-grid and On-grid?

Feb 02, 2023

On-grid means that the electricity generated by solar power is converted into the required voltage for the national grid by reversing the voltage, giving priority to household use, and then transmitted and used when the amount of electricity generated by solar power exceeds the amount of electricity used by household appliances and is connected to the national grid.

Off-grid refers to a system that operates independently of the local national grid. The electricity from the solar panels flows directly into the battery and is stored there, and when power is needed for appliances, the direct current from the battery flows through the inverter and is converted into alternating current. The main components are solar panels, storage batteries, charge and discharge controllers, inverters and other components.

What is the difference between off-grid and grid-connected?

Whether or not batteries are used

1. Off-grid systems must be equipped with batteries.

2. On-grid systems dont have storage devices batteries for storage.

Different scope of application

1,Off-grid systems are widely used because they are not restricted by geography and can be installed wherever there is sunlight. They are therefore ideal for remote areas without a grid, isolated islands, fishing boats, outdoor breeding bases, etc. They can also be used as emergency power generation equipment in areas with frequent power outages.

2, On-grid systems dont need to use batteries, greatly saving the cost of the system, so if you want to save money on electricity and power supply convenience, choose On-grid solar power systems, is the current or future mainstream way.
